the effect you used to make those letters come from a plugin, so yes, it is basically a filter. that you rotated a 3d cam around. Im glad you are learning aftereffects but nothing so far youve posted is special or hard to produce,
so yah, yay for filters.
I'm sorry, but I didn't use any filters on the letters. They are solid 3D text layers which I copied by hand so it looked 3D. The only plug in I used was te particle thing, but I edited that a lot. I can send you the file if you want to :)

Yes, but only flat 3D. This text thing was just fake 3D, about 30 flat text layers stacked into eachother. :)
